Updated Jeep Avenger gets a more elegant interior and a new turbo engine

Updated Jeep Avenger: what changed in the European version

Jeep has officially unveiled the updated version of the Avenger crossover for the European market. The model’s design was previously shown last month, and now all technical details have become known. The car features a revised exterior, an improved interior, and a new special series.

Exterior changes and design

The updated Avenger has a new radiator grille, reminiscent of the one used on the Compass model. It looks more modern and, on higher trim levels, features illumination. Designers also reworked the bumpers and the front part of the body. New LED matrix headlights and updated 17- and 18-inch alloy wheels with center caps featuring a stylized image of the Willy’s MB have appeared.

Additionally, the color palette has been expanded with two new shades: Forest and Bamboo. The manufacturer notes that the crossover has optimized approach, departure, and ramp angles, which are up to 22°, 35°, and 21°, respectively.

Improved interior

The interior of the previous version was criticized for being too simple in its finishes. Jeep has decided to address this by adding soft upholstery to the lower part of the front panel and new soft-touch materials on the door cards. The Altitude and Summit trims have received higher-quality fabric upholstery and vinyl. For the 4xe version, a new, washable, and very durable green interior is offered.

The Selec-Terrain system selector now has a rubber coating and a red base. An additional front camera has also appeared, providing the 360-degree surround view system.

New and familiar engines

Under the hood of the updated Avenger, a new turbocharged three-cylinder engine with a displacement of 1.2 liters has appeared. It develops 99 horsepower (74 kW) and 151 Nm of torque. As Jeep notes, this engine features a new cylinder block, pistons, rings, a high-pressure direct injection system, and updated valve timing, which reduces internal friction. The engine is paired with a six-speed manual transmission.

A hybrid version with 108 horsepower (81 kW) is also available. It is combined with a six-speed automated manual transmission with two clutches and an integrated electric motor. The latter is powered by a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 0.9 kWh, allowing the crossover to travel up to 1 km on electric power at speeds up to 30 km/h.

The Avenger 4xe version has all-wheel drive thanks to a rear electric motor. The total power of this setup is 143 horsepower (107 kW).

Finally, there is a fully electric version of the Avenger with a 54 kWh battery and a 154 horsepower (115 kW) motor. The range according to the WLTP cycle is up to 400 km. It is worth noting that the DC fast charging capability at 100 kW is rather modest.

85th Anniversary Edition

In addition to the standard versions, Jeep has announced a new special series, the 85th Anniversary Edition. It is based on the Altitude or Upland trims. It is distinguished by special badges on the fenders, gold accents on the bumpers and 18-inch wheels. The model also features an illuminated grille, and the 4xe versions receive an additional hood decal.

Inside, buyers will find Tartan fabric seats with gold stitching and “85” logos on the backrests. The special series also features multi-color contour ambient lighting and an “85” logo on the center console.

The Jeep Avenger update demonstrates the manufacturer’s ambition to make the model more competitive in the European market, where the compact crossover segment is extremely saturated. The improvement in interior material quality and the introduction of a new base gasoline turbo version could attract a wider range of buyers who might have previously favored competitors due to a more premium interior. At the same time, retaining the electric version and adding hybrid options indicates a gradual but confident electrification of the lineup, although the electric vehicle’s fast charging capabilities still lag behind some of its class rivals. The anniversary series, in turn, is a marketing move designed to highlight the brand’s history and generate additional excitement around the model.
