Tesla Tests the Updated Model S Plaid at the Nürburgring
Tesla engineers are actively working at the Nürburgring, and this applies not only to the updated Model Y Performance. During test runs, an updated version of the Model S Plaid was spotted. Although the exterior changes appear minimal, a significant technical upgrade is likely expected.
Previously, the Plaid was the fastest production electric car on this track, but its records were recently broken by the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT with the Weissach package and the Xiaomi Ultra. Tesla clearly has no intention of surrendering its position, so it is preparing an update for its flagship, which currently features a tri-motor powertrain with 1,006 hp.
Update Details
The car was camouflaged at the front and rear, but the changes appear minor. The front end remains almost the same as after the 2021 facelift. However, new wheels were used for the track tests, possibly with a larger size to improve traction. A more aggressive diffuser has also been added at the rear.
Tesla’s Vice President of Engineering, Lars Moravy, confirmed that the Model S update will be released this year.
Although a full-fledged new model is not expected after 13 years of production, fans of the brand were hoping for more noticeable changes. Currently, Tesla is focused on refining aerodynamics and the chassis to reclaim its leadership on the track. It can be assumed that the company is preparing a few more surprises before the official presentation.
