Lancia has produced many outstanding models over the decades. One of the brand’s most memorable cars from the 1980s and 1990s is the Thema sedan, which later received a unique version shaded from the standard station wagon, designed by Pininfarina. However, this particular Thema is even more notable than the regular station wagon. When Lancia considered the possibility of creating a station wagon based on the Thema, the company approached Pininfarina and also Zagato, giving them the task of creating their own version of the Thema station wagon. Zagato was the first to present its creation at the Geneva Motor Show in 1985, and Pininfarina showed its Thema station wagon at the Frankfurt Motor Show that same year.
Lancia chose to produce the car developed by Pininfarina, and only two prototypes from Zagato were built. This particular Thema belonged personally to Gianni Agnelli, an Italian industrialist and executive, who drove it for two years. Externally, it is very similar to the car from Pininfarina, but it has black rear pillars and a slightly different rear tailgate. At the auction, Lancia will offer this car on April 20, noting that after two years of ownership, Gianni Agnelli decided to part ways with the vehicle, but it has always remained in Italy. Currently, the odometer reads 92,329 km (57,370 miles), and the car is in excellent condition.
The interior is also well maintained, and the blue cloth seats show very little wear. The auction house expects the car to sell for an amount between € 80,000 (~$ 86,600) and € 160,000 (~$ 173,200).
