New Electric Volkswagen ID. Polo Almost Without Camouflage
The camouflage season for Volkswagen’s smallest electric hatchback is ending early. Fresh spy photos show the future ID. Polo during winter testing, with the car barely hiding its appearance.
Although Volkswagen already showed official photos of prototypes at the end of 2025, those cars were tightly wrapped. The new shots are different: the sides are completely clean, allowing a good look at the proportions, body lines, and the unique rear door handle integrated into the window frame near the C-pillar.
The front and rear still have a thin layer of visual camouflage, but it’s not enough to hide the shape of the lower air intakes or the basic bumper design. Everything looks ready for series production and extremely similar to the 2023 ID.2all concept.
Sporty Look, But Not Yet GTI
The photos show two cars — white and black. The darker car has larger sporty wheels, and both seem to be equipped with moderate sporty body accents: a small roof spoiler, more massive side sills, and a deeper front splitter. This points to R-Line versions, not the full-fledged GTI, which Volkswagen has already separately announced in camouflaged form with even more aggressive details.
In size, this electric supermini is close to the current ICE-powered Polo, but thanks to smart packaging and a long 2600 mm wheelbase, the interior offers more space. The manufacturer promises additional legroom for rear passengers, as well as improvements in headroom and cabin width.
Inside, drivers will get real buttons, quality materials, and stylish retro graphics on the dashboard, as Volkswagen itself recently hinted.
Power Up to 223 HP
The car will get front-wheel drive and three power variants: 114 HP, 133 HP, and 208 HP. These settings exactly match those confirmed for the ID. Polo’s cousin — the Skoda Epiq, which, together with the Cupra Raval, uses the same front-wheel-drive MEB+ platform. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h should be around 7 seconds.
An even more powerful ID. Polo GTI, the first electric Volkswagen with such an index, will appear later with 223 HP.
Base versions will get a 37 kWh battery with moderate charging speed and range suitable for the city. However, the larger 52 kWh battery will provide up to 450 km of range. It seems that the large battery will be the only one available at the start of sales, which means the promised starting price of 25,000 euros may become a reality only by the end of 2026 or early 2027.
The appearance of the ID. Polo without camouflage confirms that Volkswagen is seriously determined to fill the market with affordable electric vehicles. Using the shared MEB+ platform for several group models allows for cost optimization, which should theoretically make the car price-attractive. However, the delay in releasing the most affordable version with a small battery may temporarily limit its target audience. The model’s success will largely depend on whether the company manages to maintain a balance between price, performance, and build quality in the face of stiff competition in the compact electric vehicle segment.
