Honda’s first electric motorcycle is $11 cheaper than Harley LiveWire

Honda WN7: The first production electric motorcycle from the Japanese giant

The era of electric motorcycles has finally arrived, and although it is not developing as quickly as the electric car market, more and more brands are releasing two-wheeled vehicles powered by electricity. Honda has introduced its first model — the WN7, a fully electric motorcycle that has hit European roads alongside a pair of electric scooters. This marks the moment when one of the biggest players in the motorcycle world stops merely observing the segment and begins actively working in it.

Design and features

Visually, the WN7 has a quirky, retro-inspired style and looks quite elegant. The model is equipped with dual square headlights, and due to the absence of a windshield, it belongs to the naked bike class. The large battery pack located in the frame immediately distinguishes it from a conventional gasoline motorcycle, but the look remains purposeful. Of particular note is the single-sided rear swingarm, inspired by Ducati models.

Technical specifications

The WN7 is powered by a 9.3 kWh lithium-ion battery and a single electric motor producing 67 hp and 100 Nm of torque. Although these figures are quite strong, the motorcycle weighs a hefty 217 kg, which is a lot for this class. Nevertheless, the instant torque provided by the electric motor should make the ride very engaging.

Regeneration and additional features

Using an electric powertrain also provides other advantages. For example, the WN7 has adjustable regenerative braking, which helps recover energy and reduce the load on the mechanical brakes. To avoid accidental jerking during parking, Honda has added a “walking speed” mode, which allows precise throttle control at low speeds.

Price and competition

Prices for the WN7 vary depending on the market. In the UK, it starts at £12,999 ($17,300), while in mainland Europe it starts at €14,780 ($16,879), which is only €10 cheaper than the updated LiveWire One. The latter once cost over €30,000 in Europe, then dropped to €25,000, and now LiveWire has reduced the price to €14,790.

Lineup of electric scooters

The WN7 enters the market alongside the electric scooters EM1 e: and CUV e:, which occupy the lower segment of Honda’s new electric lineup.

Importantly, for traditional motorcycle enthusiasts, Honda notes that the WN7 was not designed to replace any of the existing gasoline bikes. It is a separate step in a new direction, demonstrating the brand’s readiness for electrification, but without abandoning classic models. Given the price, which almost matches the LiveWire One, Honda has clearly targeted competition in the affordable electric motorcycle segment, although the 217 kg weight may be a challenge for some riders. The launch of the WN7 along with two scooters indicates the company’s systematic approach to electrifying two-wheeled transport, which could significantly impact the market in the coming years.
