Confirmed: Volkswagen will release a new Atlas Cross Sport, and the ID. Buzz will get a pickup body by 2027

Volkswagen updates its lineup for 2027: new Atlas Cross Sport and return of the ID. Buzz

Volkswagen has revealed plans to update its model lineup for 2027. Key highlights include a refreshed Atlas Cross Sport arriving later this year and the return of the electric ID. Buzz van with new camping equipment.

New Atlas Cross Sport

Volkswagen recently introduced an updated Atlas and has now confirmed plans for a new Atlas Cross Sport. It will debut later this year and is likely to be slightly cheaper than its seven-seat counterpart.

The automaker has not yet revealed many details about the model, but it is expected to mirror the standard Atlas. This means we can expect a modern design, as well as a more refined cabin with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.9- or 15-inch infotainment system. Top-tier versions are likely to come with Nappa leather seats, natural wood trim, and a premium Harman Kardon audio system with 14 speakers.

Under the hood, a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine is expected, producing 282 hp (210 kW / 286 PS) and 349 Nm of torque. It is likely to be paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

Return of the ID. Buzz

Another major news item is the return of the ID. Buzz, which skipped the 2026 model year. It gains new Pro S 4Motion and Tourer 4Motion trims, with the latter noted for its camping focus. As part of the update, it features a fold-out mattress and window curtains for privacy.

The van also includes ventilation panels for the front windows, as well as camping gear, including an external table and chairs. Other features include second-row captain’s chairs, an electrochromic smart roof, a retractable tow hitch, and 20-inch dark graphite wheels with black rims. The model also features special Overnight Mode software, which allows the vehicle and its power to be used longer than usual.

In addition to the new camping variant, the ID. Buzz gets a new Android-based infotainment system, promising an improved user experience and a new app store. The model also gains a new one-pedal driving mode, an NACS charging adapter, and an updated color palette that eliminates most two-tone combinations. The latter step seems like a misstep, but the only two-tone option for 2027 will be Candy White over Cherry Red.

Taos

The 2027 Volkswagen Taos gains a new Sport trim, positioned above the base S version. It features an updated exterior with black and gunmetal accents, as well as black 18-inch wheels. Other features include tinted glass, embossed fabric seats, and yellow contrast stitching.

The base Taos S gets two additional speakers, bringing the total to six. It also adds new keyless entry, improved rear seat belt reminders, and an updated infotainment system with satellite radio and voice control.

Tiguan

Since the popular Tiguan was recently fully refreshed, changes for 2027 are minor. However, an improved rearview camera has been added, providing higher image quality. All trims gain a new Auto Hold function, and the SE R-Line Black gets a standard heated steering wheel.

Jetta

VW Confirms New Atlas Cross Sport, ID. Buzz Returns With A Bed For 2027

The 2027 Jetta undergoes minor changes, but the price-focused S and Sport trims mirror the Taos, gaining two additional speakers, KESSY keyless access, and improved rear seat belt reminders. The infotainment system has also been updated, adding satellite radio and voice control.

Golf

The base Golf GTI S gains keyless access and Light Assist for 2027. That appears to be all the changes, though Volkswagen noted that the Golf R Black Edition remains available.

ID.4

Volkswagen recently stopped production of the ID.4 in America, but existing inventory is expected to last until 2027, as dealers sold only 338 electric vehicles in the first three months of the year. These are terrible numbers, but the model will eventually return.

The automaker is keeping details under wraps but has promised to share more information later this year. However, spy photographers have already captured numerous prototype images, and rumors suggest the crossover may be renamed the ID. Tiguan.

Technology Updates

In addition to the model year changes, Volkswagen announced that “premium connected services will be consolidated into a single In-Vehicle Premium subscription for added convenience.” Features vary by vehicle, but new additions include myQ garage door opener, Travel Assist with lane change assist, AirConsole games, and What3Words navigation.

Overall, the 2027 Volkswagen lineup updates demonstrate the company’s commitment to refreshing both traditional internal combustion engine models and electric vehicles. The return of the ID. Buzz with camping equipment is an interesting move that could attract a new audience, though the elimination of most two-tone color options raises questions. Meanwhile, the situation with the ID.4 looks concerning due to low sales, and a potential rename to ID. Tiguan may be an attempt to remedy the situation. Overall, 2027 will be a year of gradual but significant changes for Volkswagen, aimed at maintaining competitiveness across various segments.
