Toyota Pickup for $15,800 Visited Bangkok and Returned Looking Like a Brabus

New Look for the Budget Pickup

The Hilux Champ has already proven to be a blank canvas for tuners, but Toyota continues to find new ways to keep interest in its most affordable pickup. The latest example is inspired by Brabus aesthetics, giving the budget workhorse a much more aggressive look thanks to a special body kit and other tuning updates.

Shown at the 2026 Bangkok International Motor Show, this special project flew under the radar of many headlines, overshadowed by bigger premieres like the Land Cruiser FJ and Hilux Travo. This is a shame, as it stands out as one of the most appealing interpretations of the Champ to date, combining its utilitarian origins with a dose of street character.

Exterior Changes and Design

The exterior transformation speaks for itself. Updated bumpers, widened wheel arches, and a modified radiator grille, painted in body color, give the vehicle a more planted stance. Gloss black accents add contrast, including a hood scoop and roof-mounted LED lights inspired by the styling of the Mercedes-AMG G63, as modified by Brabus.

The standard steel wheels of the Hilux Champ have been replaced with multi-spoke alloy wheels from Lenso, shod in rugged off-road tires. The ride height has been increased, adding ground clearance but also making entry more difficult, so black aluminum side steps and a rear step help compensate, making it easier to access the cabin or cargo bed.

Toyota did not disclose details of this unique Hilux Champ, although decals on the side point to Thai tuner Azzy Autoparts as the likely author of the project.

Interior Updates and Technical Features

The interior features a modernized steering wheel from the latest Hilux model, now paired with an additional multimedia system screen. The cabin also received red accents on the dashboard, as well as a set of bucket seats upholstered in leather and Alcantara.

Interior and details of the special Toyota Hilux Champ version

This show car likely retains the standard 2.4-liter turbo-diesel engine producing 148 hp to the rear wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission. However, it’s hard not to imagine something more serious, perhaps using components from the GR-indexed Hilux Champ racing pickup.

Variants and Market Context

Judging by the photos, the build is based on the Super SWB Hilux Champ version, although Toyota has not confirmed which exact variant is used. If so, this is the smallest model in the lineup with a length of 4,520 mm. The price for the Super SWB starts at 615,000 Thai baht, while the base Hilux Champ version costs from 519,000 baht.

According to Toyota Motor Thailand President Noriaki Yamashita, the Hilux Revo and Hilux Champ secured a record 48.7% share of the pickup segment in 2025. This year, they will be joined by the new generation Hilux, which in Thailand has been named Travo.

Concepts like this demonstrate how flexible the platform of a seemingly simple commercial vehicle can be. They not only expand its target audience but also highlight the cultural significance of pickups in regions where they are not just transport, but a status symbol and a means of self-expression. The success of Hilux models in the Thai market points to a successful strategy that combines reliability, affordability, and opportunities for personalization.
