Police stopped a pursuit at 225 km/h from the air without causing any incident

Police used an aircraft to pursue a speeding Corvette

In Salem, New Hampshire, police detained a 22-year-old driver who accelerated to 140 miles per hour (225 km/h) in a 2024 Chevrolet Corvette. Instead of a traditional pursuit, law enforcement used an aircraft to track the violator. This allowed them to avoid a dangerous chase and safely apprehend the driver.

The operation took place on Memorial Day, when New Hampshire State Police were patrolling Interstate 93 from the air. The aircraft recorded 111 violations, including speeding, phone use while driving, and improper passing. However, a white Corvette drew particular attention. Initially spotted at 110 mph, the driver began fleeing, unaware that they were being monitored from above.

“The aircraft followed him from the highway onto local roads, where ground patrols stopped the violator”

The detained individual—Brandon E. B. from Salem, Massachusetts—was charged with reckless driving and failure to comply with police orders. The maximum penalty for such offenses in New Hampshire includes a $620 fine, a 60-day license suspension, and additional sanctions. Along with him, police identified 42 other drivers exceeding 90 mph and six going over 100 mph that day.

Using aviation for speed enforcement is not a new method, but this case serves as a reminder that violators cannot always evade law enforcement. Technology enables the recording of dangerous driving behavior without direct intervention, reducing risks for all road users. This is especially relevant during holidays, when violations traditionally increase.
