Porsche created Macan EV for the world, while GAC developed a larger model for China

GAC introduced the new electric crossover Hyptec S600

Chinese automaker GAC has expanded its electric vehicle lineup by introducing a new SUV under its premium sub-brand Hyptec. The model is named S600, and although it does not claim originality, its design attracts attention. The crossover borrows some features from the Porsche Macan Electric, and pre-orders are already open.

Design and exterior features

Many modern SUVs share similar design traits, and the S600 is no exception. The upper parts of the headlights resemble the style of the German automaker from Stuttgart. However, the overall execution looks quite clean and elegant.

GAC designers deliberately sacrificed some rear headroom and cargo space in favor of a more streamlined coupe-like roof. The result is a particularly striking rear end, emphasized by intricate LED taillights and an adjustable light strip that stretches across the full width of the body.

Dimensions and interior

The new Hyptec has a length of 5,015 mm, a width of 1,933 mm, a height of 1,700 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,936 mm. This makes it noticeably larger than the Zeekr 7X, which has a length of 4,787 mm and a wheelbase of 2,900 mm. The S600 cabin is ready to accommodate a family and all their luggage without issues.

In the center of the dashboard is a large touchscreen, as well as a separate digital instrument cluster. High-quality metal inserts are visible around the air vents, on the door panels, and on the center console, where wireless phone charging is also located. A large head-up display is also included in the equipment.

Comfort and audio system

The rear part of the cabin looks no less luxurious. The seats can recline up to 143 degrees and also have extendable footrests. A 22-speaker audio system is standard.

Technical specifications and versions

GAC will offer both a fully electric version and a range extender version. The pure electric version will be available with lithium iron phosphate and ternary lithium batteries. Although their capacity is not yet known, the range is expected to be from 660 km to 800 km. Power will be provided by a single electric motor with 335 hp (250 kW).

The range extender version will also have a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine, increasing the total range but limiting the purely electric range to 230 km.

This move by GAC demonstrates how Chinese automakers are actively competing in the premium electric vehicle market, offering larger sizes and rich equipment at a relatively lower price. The Hyptec S600, although resembling Porsche in design, has its own unique features, such as a spacious cabin and powerful audio system. The choice between the pure electric version and the range extender version allows buyers to choose according to their needs: maximum range or versatility for long trips. This shows that GAC is trying to satisfy different market segments, offering both an urban electric vehicle and a car for long journeys.
