Subaru WRX Sales Are Plummeting Sharply — Is It Time to Discontinue Production?

Subaru WRX in a Crisis Situation

Subaru WRX is going through tough times – sales of the iconic model are plummeting sharply. In July 2025, only 457 cars were sold, which is 66.6% less than last year. Overall, for January-July, the figures fell by 35.4% to 6,888 units. Even the less popular BRZ shows better rates, although its sales also decreased by 18.1%.

Experts believe the problem is not a one-time decline but a long-term trend. The WRX has lost some of its “fiery” reputation, and competitors like the Toyota GR Corolla offer more powerful and modern solutions for a similar price. The absence of a top-tier STi version also does not add to the model’s appeal for enthusiasts.

The Overall Picture of Subaru Sales

Not all Subaru models show negative dynamics. The Crosstrek grew by 15.1% in July, and the electric Solterra – by 23.9%. The Forester also demonstrates a positive trend with an 11.3% growth. Overall, the brand in the US increased sales by 4.5% in July and by 0.5% for January-July.

However, other models, such as the Ascent (-28.7%) and Impreza (-7.9%), are also not having the best of times. The Legacy, on the contrary, increased sales by 6.6% in July and by 16.2% for the year.

Interestingly, despite the problems of individual models, Subaru as a whole manages to hold its position in the market. Perhaps it is time for serious changes in the lineup, especially for the WRX, which was once a true legend among motorists. Whether the brand should completely abandon this model or, on the contrary, invest in its renewal is a question that requires the attention of the company’s management.
