Mercedes Suspends Electric Vehicle Deliveries in the USA
Mercedes-Benz has temporarily suspended the shipment of electric vehicles to the US market due to low demand and high dealer inventories. Although the company continues to produce EVs at its plant in Alabama, it expects slow growth in the electric vehicle market in the coming years.
A brand representative stated:
“Mercedes-Benz is temporarily suspending the acceptance of orders for EQ models in the USA to align with current market demand”
. During the Q2 results presentation, CEO Ola Källenius also noted that the company expects a slowdown in electric vehicle sales.
Global Changes in the EV Market
The situation with electric cars is becoming more complicated due to rising tariffs and the termination of tax incentives for EV buyers. This is forcing manufacturers to revise their strategies – Jaguar, Audi, and Porsche have already delayed the launch of new electric models. Even Porsche, which planned to electrify its lineup, is now developing a new version of the Macan with an internal combustion engine.
The impact of tariffs has already cost automakers like General Motors and Stellantis billions, despite local production. Other brands, including Kia, are taking the path of price increases. Canada is considering its own measures in response to market changes. Mercedes is expected not to be the last manufacturer to adjust its plans due to current challenges.
Although the long-term prospects for EVs in the USA remain positive, current conditions show that the transition to electric transportation is not happening as quickly as expected. Manufacturers will have to find a balance between investing in the future and adapting to today’s market realities. This is especially true for premium brands, whose customers are sensitive to changes in pricing policy.
