Maserati moves GranTurismo and GranCabrio production to Modena
Maserati has announced the relocation of GranTurismo and GranCabrio production from the Mirafiori plant in Turin to its historic plant in Modena. This is where their predecessors were previously manufactured, and it is also the location of the brand’s headquarters.
The transition will take place in the fourth quarter of 2025, coinciding with the start of production of the new Fiat 500 Hybrid in Turin. This model has the potential for 100,000 units per year, which is far more important to Stellantis than the low-volume GranTurismo. Incidentally, Maserati’s sales dropped from 26,600 in 2023 to 11,300 in 2024, leading to the cancellation of some projects.
Modena – the new development hub
The Viale Ciro Menotti plant in Modena already produces the Coupe, Cielo, and GT2 Stradale models, as well as the V6 Nettuno engine for the entire Maserati lineup. The brand describes this plant as one of the most modern in the country, making Modena its “luxury hub.”
Most employees from the Turin plant will transition to Fiat 500 Hybrid production, while some will be reassigned to other production lines. However, the bodywork and painting of the GranTurismo and GranCabrio will still be carried out in Turin, which is 300 km away from Modena.
“Bringing the GranTurismo and GranCabrio back to Modena is a proud and strategic decision that combines our industrial heritage with future opportunities,” said Maserati CEO Santo Ficili.
The GranTurismo debuted in 2022, and the GranCabrio in 2024. Both models are built on the updated Alfa Romeo Giorgio platform and offer a choice between a gasoline V6 and a fully electric (Folgore) version.
Despite the challenging sales situation, Maserati emphasizes its commitment to the Motor Valley region. Relocating production to Modena could be an opportunity for the brand to strengthen its identity and connection to Italian automotive tradition. It will also allow the company to utilize its production facilities more efficiently amid growing competition in the premium car market.
