Technology Pioneer Predicts Your Children Won’t Have to Drive Cars Anymore – Maybe You Either

A Driverless Future: Will the Next Generations Really Not Drive Cars?

The founder of the navigation service Waze, Uri Levine, believes that children born between 2025 and 2039 (so-called Generation Beta) may never learn to drive a car. He compares the future of transport to modern elevators, which once required operators and now work automatically.

Generation Beta will not drive cars, and their descendants will not even believe that people once drove cars on their own

Autonomous Transport: Advantages and Challenges

Levine predicts that within 10 years, most paid transportation services will become fully driverless. This could significantly reduce the cost of trips – for example, the price of an Uber-like service could drop from $100 to $25. Furthermore, people will be able to use travel time for other purposes instead of driving.

However, the transition to autonomous transport will not happen immediately. For example, the company Waymo has been offering driverless rides since 2020, but its service is still only available in a few US cities. In most countries around the world, such technologies are not yet present, and their implementation could take decades.

The growth of driverless technologies could change not only the way we travel but entire industries – from logistics to retail. Some experts suggest that stores will be able to deliver goods to customers using autonomous vans, making offline shopping less relevant. While these changes promise convenience, society will have to adapt to a new reality where algorithms replace human decisions on the roads.
