Tesla discontinues sales of Model S and Model X in Europe
At one time, the Model S and Model X were Tesla’s flagship, demonstrating what premium electric vehicles could be. They offered high performance and innovative solutions, but over time, buyer priorities have changed.
After the emergence of the more affordable Model 3 and Model Y, interest in the more expensive models began to decrease. Currently, the Model S and X together account for less than 3% of the company’s quarterly sales. Therefore, it is not surprising that Tesla has decided to discontinue their sales in Europe.
The future of the models
Tesla quietly removed the Model S and X from the European configurator without making any loud announcements. The company is still selling existing cars from inventory, but once they are exhausted, the models will disappear from the market – unless, of course, Tesla decides to replace them with something new.
Interestingly, the update for the Model S and X happened only two months ago. Among the changes are an updated design, a new color palette, improved noise insulation, and interior ambient lighting.
For now, the models will remain on sale in the US and Canada, but their future looks uncertain. In the long term, the company may need to develop new flagship models to compete with modern counterparts from other manufacturers.
Although the Model S and X still have their fans, their design and technology are already inferior to new competitors. This is especially noticeable in a market where more and more modern electric vehicles with advanced features are appearing.
