Special version GAC-Toyota bZ3X Knight Edition: black color and affordable price
Chinese buyers have gained access to a special version of the popular electric car GAC-Toyota bZ3X, called the Knight Edition. This is another model that, unfortunately, is not available in the USA. Despite the name, which may seem not very successful, this version has a restrained, “darkened” look and remains surprisingly affordable.
The differences between the Knight Edition and the standard bZ3X are not significant, but it may appeal to those who prefer cars in black. In addition to the black paintwork, the Knight Edition has black emblems front and rear, and is fitted with unique 18-inch wheels with black and silver aerodynamic covers.
Two versions and expanded equipment
Two versions will be offered: the standard 520 Pro Knight Edition and the 520 Pro Lidar Knight Edition. The latter, obviously, adds an advanced lidar sensor above the windshield. Among other key features of the bZ3X Knight Edition are a Yamaha audio system with 11 speakers, front seats with heating, ventilation and massage, as well as small tables that fold out from the backrests of the front seats, like on an airplane.
Small battery, but decent range
No changes were made to the powertrain. Both 520 Pro models use a standard battery pack with a capacity of 58 kWh and a front electric motor that delivers 201 hp and a range of up to 232 miles (520 km).
Interestingly, non-Knight Edition versions of the bZ3X can be configured with more power and range in the 610 Max version. This version has a larger 68 kWh battery and a 221 hp electric motor, providing a range of 379 miles (610 km).

Dimensions and price
The compact crossover has a length of 4600 mm, a width of 1875 mm, a height of 1645 mm, and a wheelbase of 2765 mm. The length and width match the RAV4, although it is a few inches lower. The wheelbase, however, is almost three inches longer than the Toyota’s, meaning more passenger space. Weighing 1835 kg, it weighs about what you would expect from an electric crossover of this size.
Local prices for the 520 Pro Knight Edition start at 114,800 yuan ($16,900), while the version with lidar costs 134,800 yuan ($19,900). By American standards, both figures seem almost unreal. The base version is more than twice as cheap as the bZ ($34,900) and about $15,000 cheaper than the internal combustion RAV4 ($31,900 before delivery). Even the more expensive model with lidar costs significantly less. There is no car in the USA that comes close to such prices.
Interestingly, this special version demonstrates how Toyota, together with GAC, is trying to meet demand in a rapidly changing market. Although the Knight Edition does not offer revolutionary technical changes, it emphasizes design and comfort, which may be a key factor for Chinese buyers. At the same time, the pricing policy makes this electric car extremely competitive even compared to traditional internal combustion engine vehicles, highlighting the rapid development of the electric vehicle market in China.
