Kia’s Electric Vehicles Face Serious Difficulties This Year

Kia Sales: Electric Models Lag, But Gasoline Cars Succeed

In July, Kia recorded a 12% sales growth compared to last year. However, the company’s electric models, such as the EV9 and EV6, are showing a decline in demand. For example, in July 2025, only 1,737 EV9s and 1,290 EV6s were sold, whereas in 2024 these figures were 1,815 and 1,545 respectively. Overall, for the seven months of 2025, EV6 sales fell by 42.6%, and EV9 sales by 41.8%.

However, the company is compensating for this decline through the success of its gasoline models. The Kia K5, Carnival, Telluride, Sorento, and Sportage are showing significant sales growth. The Sportage stands out in particular, with over 101 thousand units already sold. Overall, the brand has increased its sales volume by 8.3% year-on-year.

“Kia is steadily moving towards record annual sales and the highest market share due to growing demand,” said Eric Watson, Vice President of Sales at Kia America.

Currently, the company is betting on traditional models, as the electric segment is unlikely to repeat last year’s performance. New advertising campaigns, such as for the 2026 Sportage, aim to strengthen customer connection with the brand. It seems that for now, Kia will have to rely on internal combustion engine vehicles until the electric vehicle market recovers.
