Unique Corvette ZR1X Sold for a Price Exceeding Its Original Sticker Price by Twelve Times

At the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, a unique Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X was sold for an impressive $2.6 million. This amount is more than twelve times the standard recommended price of the top Corvette ZR1 model, which is $207,395. However, such a high price has a compelling reason – all the funds raised will be directed to charity.

Sale Details and Purpose of the Funds

The winner of the auction and the new owner of the exclusive car is Rick Hendrick, a well-known collector who regularly buys the first production examples of iconic American sports cars. For comparison, last year he paid $3.7 million for the first Corvette C8 ZR1. All proceeds from the sale of this Corvette ZR1X will be donated to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which provides free housing for the families of fallen military personnel and first responders, as well as builds special “smart homes” for wounded veterans.

“General Motors and Chevrolet are proud to support the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, honoring those who serve and sacrifice for our country. This incredible contribution will help us continue to fulfill our promise to never forget the families of fallen heroes,” said Frank Siller, Chairman and CEO of the foundation.

Features of the Exclusive Car

This special Corvette ZR1X is inspired by the limited-edition Stars & Steel series, which Chevrolet introduced in December to mark the 250th anniversary of the USA – only 250 such cars will be produced. This particular example features a unique paint finish called Dark Satin Steel, developed by the GM Design Fabrication team. The paintwork integrates racing stripes with dozens of stars, a stylized nod to the American flag.

The car also received bright blue brake calipers and blue lettering on the carbon fiber rear spoiler. The interior features Santorini Blue leather upholstery, complementing the overall color theme.

The sale of this car is a reminder of how the automotive industry can effectively combine high technology and design artistry with social responsibility. Such auctions become not only a showcase of technical achievements but also a powerful tool for raising funds for important social initiatives. The success of this lot demonstrates the high demand for unique cars with a history and a charitable component, which often transforms them into true investment assets. This event also underscores the enduring popularity of the Corvette as an icon of American automotive manufacturing, capable of generating significant interest and financial results even in its most exclusive incarnations.
