Unique Car of Ukraine’s First Oligarch Yevhen Shcherban Spotted in Kyiv (PHOTO)

A reader of the Topgir.com.ua website noticed a rare car for our latitudes in Kyiv and sent us its photo. But he didn’t even suspect that it was not just a vintage Chevrolet Caprice, but an armored exclusive car of the late Yevhen Shcherban, the richest man in Ukraine in the 1990s.

Despite the fact that the car has been in Ukraine since the 1990s, it disappeared from sight after the businessman’s murder… until yesterday. According to the author of the photo, the car is operational and was spotted at a service station. Perhaps it was brought for maintenance.

When asked who brought it – one can assume that it was the son of the late owner of the Chevrolet.

After all, a documentary “Spadkojemets” where you can see Yevhen Shcherban Jr. in this very car recently aired on TV.

By the way, for many years the sons of the once richest Ukrainian have been engaged in legal battles since no perpetrators have been found yet. For those interested in the details, a video is attached at the bottom of the post.

It is worth noting that Yevhen Shcherban is the person called “the first oligarch of Ukraine.” In the 1990s, he was considered the richest man in the country, and in archival photos and videos, you can see current billionaires Rinat Akhmetov and Sergey Taruta in his circle. Let us remind you, Shcherban was killed on November 3, 1996.

On that fateful day, Shcherban flew from Moscow to Donetsk on a Yak-40 charter flight. The first Ukrainian oligarch was shot right near the plane to which his armored Chevrolet Caprice had already been brought (unofficially, it was specially ordered for Shcherban).

In addition to Yevhen Shcherban, aviation technician Hapchich was killed, Shcherban’s wife and flight engineer Shein were mortally wounded.

The “Shcherban case” can be considered as resonant (and, of course, unsolved) a crime as the murder of Vlad Listyev in the 1990s.

Note that the car still has the same numbers…

By the way, did you know that the very plane on which the most influential Ukrainian of the 90s last landed now serves as a café-restaurant near Kyiv.
