New AI-based tool detects vehicle damage
Click-Ins has developed a tool that allows for the detection of even the smallest car damages using regular smartphone photos. The technology can be useful for insurance companies, car auctions, and transport companies, as it significantly speeds up the process of assessing vehicle condition.
Unlike the Hertz system, which uses special cameras, this tool analyzes photos taken with a phone. It eliminates glare and dirt to obtain a clear image of the body. Insurance clients only need to take 8 photos of the car from different angles, after which the algorithm will determine even defects invisible to the naked eye.
How does it work?
Insurance companies can create a visual record of a vehicle’s condition before concluding a contract. When a claim is filed, the system compares the initial photos with the new ones, automating a process that previously required the involvement of specialists.
“If you damaged your car on a pole in a parking lot, this is exactly the case when an appraiser should not go to the scene,” explains Click-Ins CEO Josh Parsons.
Broader application possibilities
The technology can be used not only in insurance. Car auctions will be able to record the condition of cars faster, and transport companies will be able to monitor them during transportation. Dealerships will also get a convenient tool for evaluating cars when accepting them on consignment.
While automation simplifies many processes, it also raises questions about the line between useful innovations and excessive control. Some customers may feel that overly sensitive systems detect damages that were previously unnoticed, leading to additional costs. At the same time, for businesses, this means cost reduction and acceleration of work processes.
