Recall of 65,000 Ram Pickups Due to Malfunction Causing Dashboard Display Disappearance

Major Stellantis Vehicle Recall

Stellantis has announced three new recall campaigns affecting over 65,000 vehicles. These measures concern Jeep Cherokee, Jeep Wrangler models, and various classes of Ram trucks.

Display Issues in Ram Trucks

The largest recall involves 65,348 Ram 1500, 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500 pickups from the 2025 and 2026 model years. The reason is a software error that can lead to a complete shutdown of the instrument panel display.

Ram became aware of the problems in January and ultimately traced the cause to “software that can cause the cluster to become inoperative at startup and/or while driving.”

Interestingly, the problem is not with the large 12.3-inch digital display, but with the smaller 3.5-inch screen. According to the manufacturer’s estimates, the defect is present in only 1% of the recalled vehicles. Dealerships will resolve the issue by updating the instrument panel software. Notifications to owners are planned to be sent out by the end of next month.

Recall of New Jeep Cherokee Due to Braking System

The second campaign concerns 241 Jeep Cherokee SUVs from the 2026 model year. A problem with the braking system has been identified in them, which could lead to the loss of anti-lock braking system and electronic stability control functions.

The recall report contains few details but points to defective software in the brake system control module. The Stellantis investigation began in February, and the company currently reports no accidents or warranty claims related to this malfunction. To fix the problem, dealers will recalibrate the BSCM software with an updated version. Owners will receive notifications this month.

Poor-Quality Welds in Jeep Wrangler

The third campaign concerns 32 Jeep Wrangler SUVs from the 2026 model year, in which insufficiently strong welds for child seat anchors have been found. This means a child may not be properly secured during a crash.

The problem concerns welds on the frame of the right-hand second-row seat. Although only four vehicles are estimated to have this defect, they do not comply with federal motor vehicle safety standards for child restraint anchorage systems. To remedy the flaw, the seat frame will be replaced free of charge. Owners are expected to receive mailed notifications in May or June.

These three recalls demonstrate the variety of potential problems in modern vehicles – from software bugs in complex electronics to classic manufacturing defects like welds. It is worth noting that even recently introduced, completely updated models, such as the Jeep Cherokee, are not immune to such situations. The manufacturer’s quick response and transparency in notifying owners are key elements of the modern safety system, even if the statistical probability of a defect for a specific owner remains low. Such stories also highlight how critical the role of software has become in the operation of even basic vehicle systems, such as the instrument panel.
