Unique Ferrari collection prepares for auction
One of the world’s most remarkable private collections of Ferrari automobiles will be sold at the Mecum auction in January 2026. For anyone who has ever dreamed of owning an Italian sports car with minimal mileage, this could be the chance of a lifetime.
Collection Features
The lineup of 48 cars stretches through every decade from the 1950s to the 2010s, presenting some of Maranello’s most coveted creations. Many of these cars have unusually specific configurations, indicating a collector who knew exactly what he wanted.
Collector’s Story
The man behind this amazing garage was Phil Bachman, who passed away in August. As a successful businessman, he managed numerous dealerships covering brands from Pontiac and Cadillac to Nissan, Jeep, Renault, Ram, and even DeLorean.
Bachman bought his first Ferrari in 1984 and over the following decades created such a meticulously curated collection that it borders on surrealism.
Rare Specimens
The oldest car in his collection is a 1953 Ferrari 166 MM/53 Vignale Spyder with 32,180 miles. From the 1960s, two masterpieces stand out: the 250 GT/L Berlinetta Lusso and the 275 GTB/4 Alloy, both recognized as the pinnacle of balance and design.
In the 1970s, Bachman’s collection was supplemented by 11 cars, including a 1975 Ferrari 365 GT4 BB that has covered only 275 miles.
Modern Sports Cars
His models from the 1980s add another layer of fascination. Among them, a 1989 Testarossa with an incredible 257 miles is sure to attract collectors’ attention.
Two Ferrari F40s are included in the collection and are now offered for sale. Both are 1992 models, painted in Rosso Corsa. One has only 456 miles, while the other has 865 miles, and they are likely to sell for over $3 million each.
The Bachman family is also selling an F50 with 251 miles, an Enzo with 645 miles, and two 360 Challenge Stradales, each with less than 400 miles.
Exclusive Models
The rarities are complemented by a one-of-a-kind Ferrari FXX, factory-painted in yellow, supplemented by low-mileage 430 Scuderia and 16M Spider. The roster continues with a 599 GTO with 103 miles and a 599 SA Aperta with 172 miles.
Topping it off, the collection includes a LaFerrari Coupe with 157 miles and an even rarer LaFerrari Aperta with just 96 miles.
Automotive Heritage
Each car is a snapshot of Ferrari’s evolution, frozen in near-perfect condition, and together they form one of the most extraordinary automotive heritages ever offered on the open market. Similar collections rarely appear at public auctions, making this event particularly significant for the world of car collectors. The preservation of the cars with minimal mileage allows tracing the brand’s technological development over almost seventy years, which is a unique opportunity for researchers and enthusiasts of automotive history.
