New Volkswagen Golf R Prototype at the Nürburgring
Volkswagen employees continue to work on special versions of the Golf R, and a prototype with enhanced performance was recently spotted on the Nürburgring track. This model, tested by racing driver Benny Leuchter, features a vented hood, indicating serious changes to the cooling system.
Design Updates and Technical Improvements
The prototype’s front bumper has minor modifications, and a larger radiator has been installed. These changes highlight the focus on efficient cooling, which could be key to high performance. Additionally, the car is equipped with alloy wheels, a powerful braking system with calipers bearing the R logo, and an exhaust system with four tips and a black rear spoiler.
Possible Technical Specifications
Although the external changes may seem minor, serious upgrades could be hiding under the hood. Rumors suggest this version could get up to 345 hp, which is 16 hp more than the standard model. The current European Golf R has a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine that produces 329 hp and 420 Nm of torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds.
This prototype could become part of a lineup of special versions, such as the Golf R 20th Anniversary Edition or Golf R 333, which have been introduced earlier. Although the exact model name has not yet been confirmed, possible options include Golf R 350 or Golf R Clubsport. Such updates demonstrate the continuous development of the model, focused on improving dynamics and efficiency, making it even more attractive to sports car enthusiasts.
