I Tested GM’s Updated Super Cruise — and Am Impressed by Its Potential

GM’s Updated Super Cruise Version

GM has introduced an improved version of the Super Cruise system, which promises more automated vehicle control. Among the new features are integration with Google Maps, automatic lane changes, and enhanced adaptation to road conditions. The system has already debuted on the 2026 Cadillac Vistiq.

One of the key changes is a smoother transition between regular roads and sections where Super Cruise is available. Now, the system can automatically activate when the car enters a compatible highway, and the LED panel on the steering wheel lights up green, signaling readiness for hands-free driving.

Smart Features and Improved Control

The new version of Super Cruise can independently change lanes to follow the route and adjust speed to changing limits. As the developers note, the system does not become too intrusive—it allows the driver to slightly exceed the speed limit if desired.

If you’re driving at 75 mph in a 70 mph zone and the limit drops to 55, the car will only reduce speed to 60

During the test drive, the system performed well, although lane change notifications on the display were not always noticeable. The updated Super Cruise is expected to appear on other GM models in the future.

The technology continues to evolve, approaching full autonomous driving, but still requires driver attention in complex situations. Importantly, engineers are focused not only on functionality but also on user comfort, avoiding excessive restrictions.
