Jaguar prepares to name its new electric car: announcement date and technical details
British automaker Jaguar is approaching an important stage of its revival. After months of teasers, heated discussions, and one of the most controversial rebrandings in history, the company is preparing to reveal the real name of the production version of the electric vehicle currently known as the Jaguar Type 00. The wait has been long, and it is not over yet, as production has not started, but high hopes are placed on this model.
Known internally as the X900, this show car and production prototypes have already traveled through many countries. It is a long, low four-door electric grand tourer that aims to redefine what Jaguar is. According to a report from Autocar India, the car’s name will be announced on May 12. In September, the brand will present the production version, and if everything goes according to plan, deliveries will begin in 2027.
Technical specifications and platform
Under the long hood and fastback body lies a new dedicated JEA platform (Jaguar Electric Architecture). The company claims the car will use a three-motor setup: one motor at the front and two at the rear. This will produce over 1000 hp (746 kW) and approximately 1300 Nm of torque. This will make it the most powerful production Jaguar in history.

Jaguar also plans to achieve a range of about 700 km (435 miles) under the WLTP cycle thanks to a battery pack with a capacity of approximately 120 kWh. The manufacturer claims the car can recover about 321 km (200 miles) of range in just 15 minutes of charging.

Design and expectations
Despite the extravagant style of the concept, spy photos suggest that the production car remains surprisingly faithful to the original design. It retains the exaggerated proportions, long front end, smooth flanks, and elegant roofline. However, the production version replaces the concept’s two-door layout with a more practical four-door GT configuration. Jaguar needs success. Hopefully, a worthy name will be chosen for this new grand tourer.

This step is critically important for Jaguar, which is trying to reinvent itself in the era of electrification. The model’s success will depend not only on its technical characteristics but also on whether it can attract a new audience without losing its connection to its heritage. Competition in the luxury electric vehicle segment is extremely high, and Jaguar must offer something truly unique to stand out against players such as Bentley, Rolls-Royce, and other premium brands that are actively developing their own electric lineups. The name announcement on May 12 will be the first step towards seeing if the new Jaguar can live up to the ambitious expectations.
