by Ford is preparing for a mid-cycle update of the F-150 for the 2027 model year, and so far we haven’t had a clear idea of what to expect. Today a preliminary order sheet appeared online that, apparently, accidentally became public. If it is genuine, the pickup will get a larger base engine, and some important trims may lower their starting prices. Let’s sort through the details.
The information comes from a document published on F150gen14.com. The sheet is dated July 30 this year, so it’s very fresh. It barely mentions the 2.7-liter V6 that was previously the base engine for the F-150. The only place it appears is in the “Deleted” section of the “Key Product Changes” list, which is where the most interesting details are usually gathered.
Larger Base Engine
Instead of the 2.7-liter unit, the base F-150 appears to get the same 3.0-liter engine used in the Ranger Raptor. It is still unknown whether it will retain its 405 hp (302 kW) and 430 lb-ft (583 N·m) of torque. If so, that would be a significantly more serious figure than the old 2.7-liter, which produced 325 hp (242 kW) and 400 lb-ft (542 N·m). The larger motor is expected to become standard across many XL, STX, XLT, and entry-level Lariat configurations. Meanwhile, the 5.0-liter V8 in King Ranch and Platinum trims may become optional.
Tremor Gets Simpler
The most interesting change could be the entry-level Tremor 400A variant. It retains the off-road capabilities: 33-inch tires, skid plates, rear differential lock, increased ground clearance, Trail Control, and Rock Crawl mode. At the same time, the vehicle loses power-adjustable front seats, heating, dual-zone climate control, the B&O audio system, and other comfort options. Instead, the cabin gets cloth seats and a column shifter.
The Same Story for Raptor
Ford appears to be taking the same approach with the Raptor. The new 800A package will keep the 450-hp (336 kW) turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost, Fox Live Valve adaptive suspension, 35-inch tires, and heated and ventilated leather front seats. However, the equipment list will lose the head-up display, the 14-speaker B&O Unleashed audio system, rear seat heating, memory functions, Rigid LED fog lights, and the more powerful Pro Power Onboard system.
Official prices are not yet available, but the order sheet also includes factory discounts for some trims—for example, up to $3,000 on the STX 200A. The new engine is the headline, but Ford’s real strategy is probably simpler. The company wants to make the price tag more attractive without drawing attention to which options were left out at the factory.
Such a tactic looks logical against the backdrop of rising prices in the full-size pickup segment. By lowering the starting cost through the removal of some comfort equipment, Ford can attract buyers who previously did not consider the Tremor or Raptor because of their price. At the same time, it helps maintain competitiveness against the Chevrolet Silverado, Ram 1500, and electric pickups. If the information about the new 3.0-liter unit is confirmed, the F-150 will get not only more power, but also a more modern base engine, which will be a solid foundation for future versions, including hybrid or electric ones.
