Updated Porsche 964 by Theon Design: Lightness and Power
The world of restomods often shows how boring production cars can look. While Porsche continues its pursuit of performance and exclusivity with the current 911 family, specialists from the British company Theon Design prove that older models still have a lot of potential. They often create something more desirable than what can be seen in modern showrooms.
This is the latest 964 model, which has undergone a major update by Theon Design in the UK. Its goal is to deliver exceptional performance without sacrificing the most important and recognizable design elements of the car. The vehicle is equipped with a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six engine, rear-wheel drive, and a manual transmission.
The engine produces 421 horsepower and 324 lb-ft (439 Nm) of torque. While this is less than the current 911 GT3, this restomod has an advantage in weight. Thanks to a completely new carbon fiber body, the car weighs only 2,526 lbs (1,146 kg), providing a better power-to-weight ratio than the GT3.
Chassis and Design
No classic 911 handles as well as a new one, so Theon added a TracTive semi-active suspension, specifically tuned for the owner. When using the available Raucus mode, the car’s exhaust system also emits a plethora of exciting popping sounds.
As for the carbon fiber body, it is painted in Crayon Grey and features several Lizard Green accents, including Porsche logos on the engine cover. Also fitted are 17-inch wheels with anthracite and black accents, along with Lizard Green brake calipers.
An Interior Worth Noticing
The car’s interior also has a lot to offer. The biggest change is the new Recaro Sportster CS seats, upholstered in black leather with green stitching and carbon fiber backs. Theon Design also added new gauges, trimmed the door panels in soft black leather, and installed a carbon fiber transmission tunnel. The 964 also retains a pair of rear seats, although they are only suitable for children.
While we think such a car is even cooler than a new 911 GT3, it comes at a price. Models from Theon, similar to this one, start at £430,000 ($577,000), and this amount does not include the cost of the donor car.
This restomod is a vivid example of how combining classic aesthetics with modern technology can create a unique vehicle. Although the project’s cost is significant, it reflects the level of craftsmanship and individual approach that Theon Design offers. For enthusiasts who value not only dynamics but also history and character, such a 964 becomes not just a means of transportation, but a true work of art on wheels, capable of competing with the most modern supercars in driving feel.
