Electric Lamborghini Urus Postponed: Brand Bets on Hybrids

The global automotive industry is in a whirlwind of change, and even symbols of luxury and speed like Lamborghini are forced to reconsider their plans. It has become known that the release of the fully electric Lamborghini Urus has been officially postponed – its launch is now expected no earlier than 2035. This was stated by the brand’s CEO, Stephan Winkelmann, emphasizing that in the coming years the brand will focus on the new generation Urus SE with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

The reasons for this decision are entirely pragmatic: an unstable regulatory environment, underdeveloped charging station infrastructure, and unpredictable demand specifically among Lamborghini clients for fully electric models. It is worth recalling that the Urus is the most popular model in the brand’s history, which largely determines the company’s financial stability. The Italians are not ready to take risks: for them, the main thing is to maintain a balance between environmental trends and the traditional Lamborghini charisma embodied in power, design, and the characteristic engine sound.

The new generation Urus SE is planned to be launched on the market in 2029. According to preliminary information, the hybrid SUV will receive a powertrain based on a V8 with an output of about 800 horsepower. This will preserve the signature dynamics and aggressive sound while adhering to current eco-standards. Lamborghini emphasizes: the transition to hybrids is a strategic decision that allows them to remain competitive in a market of uncertainty.

Interestingly, other premium brands are choosing a similar approach. For example, Porsche is not abandoning internal combustion engines for the Cayenne, acknowledging the importance of flexibility against the backdrop of declining global demand for electric vehicles. Similarly, the first electric Lamborghini – the Lanzador concept, which was supposed to appear in 2029, now also risks being released later.

However, even the postponed plans do not diminish the worldwide interest in the Urus – including in Ukraine. Despite an impressive price tag reaching hundreds of thousands of euros, several dozen of these striking SUVs can already be seen on Ukrainian roads.
