Hot version of the Cupra crossover, based on the VW Tiguan, may get over 320 hp

New “hot” version of the Cupra Terramar spotted at the Nürburgring

Cupra appears to be working on a more powerful version of its Terramar crossover. Spy photographers captured a prototype during testing on the Nürburgring circuit. Interestingly, the crossover was transported to and from the track on a trailer.

Prototype without camouflage on the track

During transport, the prototype was covered to hide details from prying eyes. However, on the track itself, the model was tested without any camouflage, leaving little room for speculation.

Review: The best Terramar from Cupra is a more interesting version of the Tiguan

Differences from the standard model

Unfortunately, there isn’t much to see, as the mysterious model looks nearly identical to the current crossover, which shares a platform with the less sporty VW Tiguan. However, on closer inspection, lightweight alloy wheels are noticeable, complemented by a high-performance braking system with red calipers bearing the Cupra branding. A slightly modified rear end with four exhaust pipes is also visible.

Possible technical specifications

This isn’t much, but such details hint at a new performance version. For reference, the standard crossover offers a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine producing 148 hp (110 kW / 150 PS) and 184 lb-ft (250 Nm) of torque. Customers can also get a 2.0-liter TSI engine with 262 hp (195 kW / 265 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque.

Cupra also offers an eHybrid plug-in hybrid version, which combines a 1.5-liter engine with an electric motor and a 25.8 kWh battery pack. This allows the plug-in hybrid to deliver a combined output of 268 hp (200 kW / 272 PS) and an electric-only range of up to 75 miles (121 km) under the WLTP cycle.

Predictions for the new version

While it’s still too early to say exactly what the mysterious model is, it could be equipped with an upgraded 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing around 329 hp (245 kW / 333 PS). This is just speculation, but we will likely find out relatively soon, as the crossover looks nearly ready for its big debut.

Interestingly, the appearance of such a prototype indicates Cupra’s intentions to expand the Terramar lineup, offering buyers not just a practical but also a truly dynamic crossover. The use of the Nürburgring track for testing underscores the sporty character of the future model, while the four exhaust pipes and powerful brakes hint at a significant increase in performance. If the assumption of 329 hp proves correct, this version will become the most powerful in the Terramar lineup, competing with other “hot” compact crossovers on the market.
