Lancia Gamma returns as a high-speed crossover-fastback, not a sedan

Stellantis continues its active news week. After confirming the replacement for the Alfa Romeo Giulietta hatchback, the concern presented the first official images and technical details of the new Lancia Gamma. The model’s premiere will take place at the Paris Motor Show in October. The new Gamma is positioned as a crossover-fastback, which will be available with both hybrid and fully electric powertrains.

Design and Styling

The exterior continues the styling set by the new subcompact hatchback Ypsilon. The front features split LED headlights and daytime running lights reminiscent of a Mandalorian helmet — an image the brand seems to be aiming for. The lower bumper houses active grille shutters for cooling and improved aerodynamics.

The side panels are executed concisely, door handles are flush with the body (a borrowing from DS Automobiles), and a thin strip of glossy black plastic wraps around the wheel arches. The roofline is not as aggressively sloping as the Peugeot 408 or DS No8, which are built on the same Stellantis platform, but the Gamma still possesses a stance characteristic of the coupe-SUV segment.

For brand enthusiasts, there is a special detail: the black insert on the rear pillars is a subtle nod to the original fastback sedan Gamma Berlina.

Dimensions and Platform

The crossover has a length of 4.67 m, a width of 1.89 m, and a height of 1.66 m. This makes it about 15 cm shorter and 80 mm taller than the DS No8. Both models share the STLA Medium architecture and are produced at the plant in Melfi, Italy.

Powertrains

One hybrid and three electric vehicles

Stellantis confirmed an initial hybrid version with 143 hp and a claimed range of over 1000 km. It is likely an electrified version of the turbocharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine used in many group models, from the Peugeot 208 to the Jeep Compass.

The rest of the Gamma lineup will be fully electric, with three power and battery capacity options:

Interior and Technology

Large screens and a coffee table console

The cabin has a similar layout to the DS No8, including a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 16-inch infotainment display. The larger screen runs on the Lancia SALA system and integrates climate control management.

A distinctive feature of Lancia is the central console with the signature “tavolino” tray, inspired by a small coffee table. The Italian crossover also features its own ambient lighting settings, different door cards, and a three-spoke steering wheel with integrated controls.

Given Lancia’s positioning, the interior is expected to be premium. Images show a combination of black fabric with white eco-leather and metallic accents. The edge of a panoramic roof is also visible, making this model, arguably, the most family-oriented Lancia since the Phedra minivan.

Order books will open after summer. Prices have not been announced yet; more details are promised to be revealed in the coming months.

The new Lancia Gamma is an important step in the revival of the Italian brand. It combines Stellantis’ modern technical base with a unique design that references the marque’s history. Interestingly, the company is betting on two types of powertrains at once — a hybrid for those not ready for full electrification, and powerful electric versions for more progressive buyers. The top version with 370 hp and all-wheel drive is particularly notable and could become the flagship of the lineup. Given the shared platform with the DS No8, the Gamma should offer a high level of comfort and technology, but with its own, more emotional Italian character.
