Rare Porsche 911 with Formula 1 Engine Set for Auction
Lanzante has created a unique restomod based on a 1988 Porsche 911 Turbo, installing an engine from a historic Formula 1 race car. This car, known as the TAG Turbo, was produced in a limited series of just 11 units. One of them, with minimal mileage, is being prepared for sale at a prestigious auction.
Experts expect this exclusive Porsche in Mintgrün (Mint Green) color to sell for $1.8-2.1 million. The car was initially delivered to the USA, then returned to the UK, where it underwent updates at Lanzante’s workshops in March.
Technology from the Race Track
Each TAG Turbo received an engine that actually competed in World Championships. This model is equipped with a 1.5-liter biturbo V6, developed for the McLaren MP4/2 and MP4/3.
This engine, used under the TAG brand, was installed in Alain Prost’s car during the 1986 German Grand Prix and the 1987 Hungarian and Japanese Grands Prix. It was on this engine that Prost achieved a third-place finish in Hungary.
The modified Cosworth engine produces 510 hp, transmitting power through a six-speed manual gearbox. To adapt it for road use, new pistons, connecting rods, valves, turbochargers, and oil coolers were installed.
In addition to the unique powertrain, the car received carbon fiber body panels, additional radiators, and a special hood with intercoolers. The interior was updated with black leather featuring green and light blue fabric inserts, as well as a modern Porsche audio system.
This Porsche 911 TAG Turbo is not just a rare car, but a true bridge between the world of motorsport and road cars. Its history and technical solutions make it one of the most interesting offerings on the collector car market.
