Leapmotor Prepares Affordable Electric Crossover for Europe
Chinese electric vehicle brand Leapmotor, which operates in Europe through the Leapmotor International joint venture with Stellantis, recently introduced the affordable B05 hatchback. Now the lineup is expanding again. The next step will be the B03X model — an even more budget-friendly subcompact crossover set to arrive at European dealerships in fall 2026.
Price as the Main Advantage
The main advantage of the B03X will undoubtedly be its price. According to the German newspaper Handelsblatt, the electric vehicle will cost around 25,000 euros ($29,400 USD). This is significantly lower than most European competitors, whose prices typically approach the 30,000 euro mark ($35,300 USD).
For comparison: the new subcompact VW ID. Polo hatchback starts at 24,995 euros ($29,400 USD), while the tall ID. Cross crossover is expected to cost over 28,000 euros ($32,900 USD). Other competitors include the Skoda Epiq, Renault 4 E-Tech, as well as Stellantis’ own models: the Citroen e-C3 Aircross and Opel Frontera Electric.
Chinese Version and Technical Specifications
The Leapmotor B03X was first unveiled in November 2025 and is already on sale in China under the name A10. On the domestic market, the EV’s price is even more attractive: from 65,800 to 86,800 yuan ($9,600 to $12,700 USD).
Chinese buyers can choose between two battery packs: 40 kWh and 53 kWh. Motor output ranges from 94 hp (70 kW) to 121 hp (90 kW). All versions feature front-wheel drive, which is standard for most electric crossovers in this class.
The specs look good on paper. Range under the CLTC cycle reaches 505 km (314 miles), although the WLTP figure used in Europe will be lower. Leapmotor also claims the battery can be charged from 30% to 80% in 16 minutes.
Design and Interior
Externally, the crossover, measuring 4,270 mm (168.1 inches) in length, looks restrained, with soft lines and a design that doesn’t attract excessive attention. Inside, it is much more interesting. Leapmotor promises space and practicality: the rear seats fold like in a Honda Jazz, and the 602-liter (21.3 cubic feet) trunk features a washable compartment under the floor, like the Ford Puma.
Also included are a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, and a 14.6-inch infotainment display powered by a high-performance Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip. In China, top versions of the crossover are equipped with a LiDAR-based ADAS system, but it is unclear whether European models will receive it.
Production in Spain
While the A10 is produced at Leapmotor’s plant in Hangzhou (China), the B03X will be assembled in Spain, alongside European versions of the B05 hatchback and B10 crossover. Local production helps avoid EU tariffs on Chinese imports, which helps keep the price low and makes this small crossover a serious problem for Western automakers who hoped tariffs would give them more time.
Thus, Leapmotor continues its aggressive pricing strategy, using local production to bypass trade barriers. The B03X could pose a serious challenge to European brands trying to compete in the affordable EV segment. The combination of a low price, practical interior, and modern technology makes it an attractive proposition for those seeking an inexpensive yet functional electric crossover. It is worth noting that the model’s success will depend not only on price but also on real-world driving performance, which remains to be seen, as well as the level of service support in Europe.
