In China, Denza GT costs $40,000, but in France someone paid over $800,000

Unique Denza Z9 GT by Chopard: Luxury on Wheels

Chinese electric cars are usually associated with low prices, but this special Denza Z9 GT is an exception. Presented at the Cannes Film Festival, it was sold at a charity auction for a staggering 700,000 euros (about $814,200). This is almost five times the standard price of a regular Z9 GT in Europe.

Why is the price so high?

The fact is that this car is a unique model created by BYD in collaboration with the Swiss jeweler and watchmaker Chopard. The powertrain remains unchanged, but the rest of the car has received numerous exclusive details that elevate it far beyond the standard model.

Interior: Precious Stones and Premium Materials

The car’s cabin uses purple amethyst stones. They are located around the central infotainment screen and are also used as switches on the center console and for seat adjustment.

The Z9 GT’s interior also includes a combination of high-quality leather and wood accents, as well as a Devialet audio system with 20 speakers. The Chopard logo is embossed on the headrests, floor mats, and the wireless phone charging pad. The Swiss brand also handcrafted two special watches to match the car: a 36mm Happy Sport made of 18-karat gold with diamonds and a 41mm Alpine Eagle in rose gold.

Exterior and Additional Equipment

A special set of luggage by Shiro was also made for the car. As for its appearance, it stands out with gold accents that run along the sides of the vehicle, also used on the wheel rims and brake calipers.

Technical Specifications

This unique Chopard is based on the flagship Denza Z9 GT, which uses three electric motors that together produce 1,150 horsepower. The electric car is also equipped with BYD’s Blade Battery 2.0 and supports Flash Charging technology, allowing the battery to be charged from 10% to 97% in just nine minutes.

Price and Market Positioning

This unique model marked the European launch of the Z9 GT, which in its standard version starts at 117,500 euros (about $136,700) in Germany. This figure significantly exceeds Chinese prices, which range from 269,800 yuan (about $39,800 today). Nevertheless, even the standard version remains a relatively advantageous offer considering its features and comparison with competitors such as the Porsche Panamera.

This case demonstrates how Chinese automakers are beginning to explore the ultra-luxury car niche by collaborating with renowned global brands. The sale at a charity auction for a price several times higher than the market value indicates growing interest in exclusive electric cars from China among wealthy buyers. It also underscores that BYD aims not only to compete in the mass segment but also to establish itself in the premium class, offering not just technology but genuine luxury and individuality.
