The ZAZ Tavria family cars stopped being produced in 2011 – that’s when the last Slavuta and Tavria pickups rolled off the assembly line. But few know that there was an attempt to revive the model in a new image – as a sports coupe.
The Tavria coupe was developed in 2010 at the Kremenchuk enterprise Vepr – the same one that made the famous Ukrainian SUV. Initially, the car was designed for drag racing, but they also planned to produce it in small series by order for $5000.
The base was a standard Tavria hatchback, but its rear was completely cut off and redesigned.
Twin windows appeared (just like in the 1963 Corvette Stingray), a new trunk lid, and two spoilers at once. Also noticeable are the body kit and air intakes on the hood.
Inside, a sports steering wheel was installed, and the new seats were upholstered in leather. Naturally, the ZAZ coupe became a two-seater.
The ZAZ tuning also included the installation of a 1.6-liter VAZ-21114 engine under the hood with increased power to 160 hp.
The lightweight car could reach 200 km/h.
The coupe has widened tracks and the ground clearance was increased to 187 mm for some reason. Some suspension parts were taken from VAZ, and disc brakes were installed at the rear.
The Tavria coupe remained a single copy. No orders were received for the car and the project was closed.
