A digital artist reimagined the 05 GT wagon as a four-door sedan.
This render revives the spirit of the beloved Alpina B5 in classic form.

Revival of a Classic: Sedan Instead of Wagon
Though we love wagons, the recent announcement of the limited Bovensiepen 05 GT based on the M5 Touring made everyone wonder if the same recipe would work on a sedan. Independent digital artist Theophilus Chin answered this question by creating a render of the spiritual successor to the beloved Alpina B5 in a classic four-door body.
Alpina’s Legacy in a New Design
The real Bovensiepen 05 GT comes from the family that founded Alpina and was created after the brand became an official sub-brand of the BMW Group. It is based on the M5 Touring, and its deliberately restrained style is the work of design veteran Frank Stephenson. This car follows the “wolf in sheep’s clothing” formula that has defined Alpina for decades.
Visual Changes and Inspiration
So, Theottle transferred Bovensiepen’s own bumpers and side skirts onto the M5 sedan. He also used forged multi-spoke wheels but replaced the wagon’s silver finish with a deep blue color. The darker shade allows the silver air intake accents and twin exhaust pipes to stand out while paying homage to Alpina’s heritage.
Technical Specifications and Power
The Bovensiepen 05 GT is equipped with a modified version of the M5’s plug-in hybrid powertrain. The 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine and electric motor together produce 790 hp (589 kW / 801 PS) and 1100 Nm of torque. This is an increase of 72 hp (54 kW) and 100 Nm compared to the standard M5. The power gain was achieved through a reworked engine control unit, an upgraded air intake, and a titanium Akrapovic exhaust system.
Performance and Prospects
Regarding performance, the wagon promises a 0-100 km/h acceleration in 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 305 km/h. Theoretically, the sedan version could be slightly faster due to its lower weight.
Will There Be a Production Version?
Currently, Bovensiepen does not plan to produce a sedan version of the 05 GT, having decided to keep the car true to the Touring form from which the entire project started. Those hoping for a four-door version will have to make do with Theottle’s renders.
A Look into the Future
However, we can always hope for an expanded lineup of BMW-based models in the coming years. Any new models will likely appear after the mid-lifecycle updates of the Neue Klasse and the release of next-generation vehicles. They will carry the brand’s fresh design language but will stop short of the harsh, aggressive style on which the M division builds its reputation.
This news demonstrates how digital art allows enthusiasts to visualize alternative versions of real cars that will never go into production. Theophilus Chin’s render not only pays homage to the classic Alpina B5 but also highlights the potential of the M5 platform for creating various body styles. Although Bovensiepen focused on the wagon, demand for powerful and luxurious sedans remains high, making such a visualization an interesting speculation about a possible future for the lineup. The lack of official plans for a sedan does not prevent fans from dreaming about expanding the model range, especially given that future BMW generations could offer new technical and design solutions.
